The Office of the Holy Cross

At Prime

[Per signum crucis...]

[By the sign of the cross...]

V: Deus in adiutorium meum intende.

V: Incline unto my aid O God.

R: Domine ad adiuvandum me festina.

R: O Lord make haste to help me.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper: et in saecula saeculorum, Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
Even as it was in the beginning, and now, and ever: and world without end, Amen.

Non dicitur, Alleluia, neque Laus tibi Domine.

Alleluia is not to be said, nor Praise be to thee O Lord.

Hymnus:
Hora prima Dominum ducunt ad Pilatum,
A falsis testibus multum accusatum,
Colaphis percutiunt manibus ligatum,
Vultum Dei conspuunt lumen caeli gratum.

Hymn:
They our Lord to Pilate led at the hour of prime,
And by witnesses full false accused much of crime,
His hands tied they him beat him with fists in great despite,
They upon God's face do spit the heaven's grateful light.

Ant: O crucis victoria, et admirabile signum, in caelesti curia fac nos captare triumphum.

Ant: O victory of the cross, and admirable sign, cause us to hold our triumph in the heavenly court.

V: Adoramus te Christe, et benedicimus tibi.

V: We adore thee O Christ, and we bless thee.

R: Quia per sanctam crucem tuam redemisti mundum.

R: For that by thy holy Cross thou hast redeemed the world.

Oratio:

Prayer:
O Lord Jesus Christ the son of the living God, set thy passion, cross, and death between thy judgment and my soul, now, and in the hour of my death and vouchsafe to grant unto me grace and mercy: to the living and the dead rest and pardon: to thy Church peace and concord, and to us sinners life and glory everlasting, who livest and reignest, God, with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.

R: Amen.

R: Amen.
